Skoda UK brought to a modified Skoda Octavia VRS Bonneville in the United States to the annual speed weeks, to break through the 200 mph wall with the 608-hp strong family car. Which managed the team on the Salt Lake now far exceeds the target set: with a top speed of 365.43 km/h Skoda set a new world record for a production car with 2.0 liter and supercharged engine.
Already in the test runs had managed the boys from the island, with a speed of 202.15 mph (325.33 km/h), set up a new world record for the fastest Skoda in the world. Even then the next goal was clear: the cracking of the speed world record in the 2.0-liter class.
The Skoda Octavia VRS was officially the fastest 2.0-liter production car in the world with a turbocharged engine by its raced at an incredible speed of 227.070 miles, i.e. 365.43 km/h, across the salt lake. The old record was 216 mph (347.62 km/h) since 1998.
The previous speed record in the category of G/PS was 347.62 km/h or 216 miles per hour, and dates from 1998. After 13 years, has now succeeded in the Czech brand, this value at 18 km/h or 11 mph to beat. The Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) officially recognized the new record. At the wheel of the car sat the Englishman Richard Meaden.
