Project at Oxford University is developing a car that requires no driver
Oxford engineers presented the ‘Wildcat’ a car using sensors, is conducted independently, without the need for a pilot. Their orientation does not require GPS or remote systems.
A group of scientists in this important British university, along with the automaker Nissan and BAE Systems, developed the ‘Wildcat’ which is a robotic vehicle that allows the driver to be seated in any way without the need to put their hands on the wheel, pedals or buttons to move, be aware of traffic or road conditions.
The operation of the vehicle is automated through sensors, cameras, laser and radar that make the ‘Wildcat’ is conducted independently, without any human intervention, and only through the coordination of all the information they record their instruments.
Moreover, this scientific breakthrough is intended to replace the basic functions of a GPS guidance with map information and points of interest and to control emissions of gases depending on the tour even report on mobile hotspots.
The emergence of autonomous vehicles aims not only to improve traffic conditions in large cities, but to improve the quality of life for executives who lose time commuting daily. This development marks the beginning of a technological revolution in which the robots will improve living conditions in terms of driving.
The breakthrough would give security because most accidents are caused by human error.
“An autonomous vehicle can be driven only by itself optimally, safely and without the need for human intervention in learning about the medium that moves,” said Paul Newman, Professor, Department of Science and Engineering, University of Oxford and Lead researcher, introducing the new tool to the public. “The main long-term goal is to develop a new generation of vehicles that can make roads safer, less congested, cleaner and better access to public transport” he said.
So, you begin to realize the dream for drivers in the future may perform activities such as reading, surfing the Internet and even sleep while ‘manage’ your vehicle.
